The day after our last harvest, we emptied the field of the irrigation lines, remay, and pea fence, and let the pigs into the whole field. They loved to hide in the tall brassicas and feast on all the leftover vegetables. The strawberry plants were their favorite! Today we moved them into the animal barn, bedded down with lots of straw so they will be dry and warm in the next storm. If it is not too muddy, we hope to put them back in the vegetables for the rest of December.
On Friday, Seth, Teddy, and I spent the day outside working to get ready for the rain. It was sunny and calm most of the day. We hoed the onions, built compost and moved the animals.
Now the farm truly feels ready for winter and plenty of rain. We hope it keeps coming!
